The woman found a 6-foot rat snake curled up in the engine compartment of her car, WRIC-TV reported.

According to a Facebook post on Thursday by Virginia Wildlife Management and Control, the Midlothian resident saw the reptile in the engine compartment when she popped the hood of her car. She called wildlife officials, who safely removed the snake.

According to the Virginia Herpetological Society, the Eastern rat snake is the most common type of snake found in the state. They are not venomous and are relatively harmless to humans. The longest found in Virginia was 8.5 feet in length, according to the society.

“ So! ... What’s in your engine compartment?” Virginia Wildlife Management and Control wrote on Facebook. “Yes folks, believe it or not, this happens more often than you think!”
