Birmingham-Southern pulls away from Stetson 49-34

DELAND, Fla. (AP) — Issac Nichols rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns as Birmingham Southern scored twice in the fourth quarter to prevail over Stetson 49-34 on Saturday night.
 
   Nichols scored his second touchdown with 10:47 to play to give Birmingham-Southern (3-0) a 42-34 lead. Sam Vermilyea sealed the victory on a 49-yard pass from Tyson Beacham with 5:44 to play.
 
   Nichols replaced Joe Moultrie after he was injured in the first quarter.  Moultrie had already run for 67 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.
 
   Stetson (1-2) and BSC traded scores on each of their first five touchdowns.  The Hatters failed to tie the game a fifth time after a missed PAT kick.  The Panthers retained the lead at 35-34 and kept it from there.
 
   Ryan Tentler was 29 of 42 for 278 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions for Stetson.  He started the game without an interception this season.
