Dump truck hits power lines, causes outage

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A dump truck crashed into a set of power lines in Orlando Saturday morning, cutting power to hundreds of people.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. near a construction site at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Wymore Road.

The truck driver told WFTV he simply misjudged the height of the power lines and hit them with the bed of the truck, causing the pole to break as well.

According to Duke Energy, as many as approximately 380 customers were affected by the outage.

Most of the power was restored by 9 a.m.

Some traffic signals were also affected, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
