5th warmest year-to-date in Orlando; 4th warmest October globally on record

2017 Global temperatures by month

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released the monthly global temperature analysis for October and data shows that October tied the record (with 2003) for the fourth warmest October in the history. Records date back to 1880.
This accounts for ocean and land temperatures. Only considering land temperatures, it’s the 11th warmest October. But we know well that our weather and climate changes are driven by the oceans’ temperatures.

October was 1.31°F (0.73°C) above the 20th century average. The top three warmest Octobers on record were 2014, 2015 and 2016. And the top 10 warmest Octobers have occurred since 2003.

Earlier this month, the National Aeronautical and Space Administration released their global observations, which account for temperature changes at the poles, where there are fewer weather stations monitoring. NASA’s findings place October as the second warmest October on record. NOAA doesn't include observations at the pole when analyzing their data, the difference is small, and the point is that the globe continues its warming.
This warming has been going on for a while, but it’s increasing rapidly. October 2017 became the 41st consecutive October with above average temperatures and the 394th consecutive month with temperatures at least nominally above the 20th century average. That’s 32 years with warming temperatures!
