ORLANDO, Fla. — Tropical Depression Six is slowly churning in the Atlantic and is on track to become a tropical storm on Sunday.
The 5 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center had winds of 35 mph.
Tropical Depression Six formed Saturday morning and was upgraded from Invest 99L.
The system is expected to gradually strengthen and is likely to become a tropical storm by the end of the weekend.
The depression is moving slowly to the north-northeast but is expected to slowly turn southwestward early next week.
The complex is anticipated to remain out to sea with elevated surf possible near the Azores.
Elsewhere, no major activity is expected in the next 7 days.
There were some indications that tropical activity may develop by late September, but that signal is warning in the latest computer models.
We remain in the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and additional systems in the coming weeks are likely.
