9 things to do this weekend: Special Olympics USA Games begin, Orange County Hurricane Expo and more

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida has plenty of events happening this weekend.

Here is a list of nine things to do.

1. Special Olympics USA Games Orlando 2022

The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games kick off in Orlando on Sunday.

The Opening Ceremony will take place at Exploria Stadium on Sunday from 8 a.m.

More than 5,500 Special Olympics athletes will participate in the games.

2. Orange County Hurricane Expo

This Saturday you can check out Orange County’s Hurricane Expo.

Meet safety professionals sharing storm tips and receive free hurricane preparedness items.

It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Orange High School.

3. CommUNITY Rainbow Run and Family Festival

The CommUNITY Rainbow Run is happening Saturday.

The event will be held at Wadeview Park in Orlando.

The 4.9K race begins at 8 a.m.

It honors all those affected by the Pulse nightclub tragedy.

The event also includes a CommUNITY Festival with entertainment, food, games and an in-person Kids Fun Run around Wadeview Park.

4. One Magical Weekend

One of the largest LGBTQ+ pride and music festivals is happening this weekend.

One Magical Weekend will be taking place at Walt Disney World, including the House of Blues, Typhoon Lagoon and more.

The event starts Friday.

5. 33rd Annual ZORA! Festival

The outdoor events for the 33rd annual ZORA! Festival are happening this weekend.

The festival had to reschedule the events due to a rise in COVID-19 cases back in January.

6. Orlando Predators

The Orlando Predators will take on the Columbus Lions on Friday.

The game starts at 7 p.m.

7. Clermont Caribbean Jerk Festival

This weekend you can check out the Clermont Caribbean Jerk Festival.

It’s happening on Saturday at Waterfront Park.

It will feature a jerk cook-off competition, live music and cultural entertainment.

8. Applause Awards

Nearly 400 students from 30 high schools and nine counties will participate in live performances at the Dr. Phillips Center.

The event begins Saturday at 7 p.m. and is modeled after the Tony Awards.

Thousands of dollars in scholarships will be given to college-bound seniors.

9. Lake Nona’s Flavors of Puerto Rico

Lake Nona’s Flavors of Puerto Rico is happening this weekend.

The event is on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Lake Nona Town Center and Boxi Park.

There will be entertainment, vendors, kids’ activities and more.
