7-year-old Ocala boy drowns at Volusia County beach

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A seven-year-old boy from Ocala died after he was pulled from the Ocean in Volusia County Saturday afternoon.

According to Volusia County Beach Safety, the boy entered the water just north of Ormond Beach with his grandfather and a 16-year-old sibling just after 1 p.m.

A witness reported seeing the grandmother standing on the beach yelling for someone to help her husband and grandchildren.

The seven-year-old was unconscious when he was pulled from the water by lifeguards. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there.

The boy’s 39-year-old grandfather and 16-year-old sister were treated on the scene and are expected to be fine.

The 56-year-old grandmother was also taken to the hospital to be treated for other health concerns.

A third grandchild, an 11-year-old girl, remained safely on shore throughout the incident and didn’t require any treatment, according to Beach Safety.
