ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Messages allegedly sent by an Altamonte Springs police officer to a woman who was in a car he pulled over are at the center of an internal investigation.
9 Investigates viewed copies of the messages, which were included in a court filing for an unrelated criminal case against the driver who was pulled over.
Officer Kristoffor Tomich allegedly sent messages to a woman who was a passenger in the car.
The driver’s attorney included those messages in the court record for a separate criminal case, which prompted Altamonte Springs Internal Affairs investigators to start looking into whether the officer violated the agency’s code of conduct.
The message states, “I enjoyed meeting you tonight. Your boyfriend should drive more carefully when you’re in the car though.” Several hours later, Tomich allegedly sent a second message, which read, “You’re also beautiful.”
“She was shocked, she was like, ‘How did this guy even find me?’” driver William Clark said.
Clark was arrested by a different Altamonte Springs officer on suspicion of DUI and cocaine possession weeks later.
His attorney, Ryan Yadav, included the messages as part of Clark’s defense discovery filing in that case, because he says the message may come up at his client’s trial when describing Clark’s history with the department.
“It's a little shady, why would someone like that go out of his way?” Clark questioned.
It’s not the first time Tomich has been accused of looking up a woman.
Tomich was caught misusing the state’s DAVID database, which law enforcement officers can use to access drivers’ personal information.
“I don’t think I want him pulling me over, or anybody else now. I don’t know what else he’s going to do,” Clark said.
Tomich is also at the center of an alleged ticket fixing scandal. Internal Affairs investigators found after he wrote fellow officer Evelyn Estevez a ticket for causing a crash, he told her ‘a witness list may not be submitted,’ implying that the ticket would be thrown out in court.
