Boyfriend of Baby Willow's mom compares case to Casey Anthony

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — 9 Investigates obtained jailhouse recordings between the woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby and her boyfriend.

Susan Richardson and Johnnie Bryant spoke about the infant, nicknamed “Baby Willow” by Orlando police, several times, but did not say what happened to her.

Prosecutors believe Richardson gave birth to Baby Willow and then discarded her in early February. The infant has yet to be found.

Bryant told Richardson he wanted to say something more to her, but couldn’t, citing Channel 9’s coverage of their visit before.

“I can’t say what I want to say,” Bryant said during his visit with Richardson.

Bryant spoke about Richardson’s mental health issues and child neglect charges during two late-March visits.

He believes with the infant still missing, Richardson’s court appointed lawyer should get her charges dropped.

“The state (has no) baby. Where (is) the baby? Where (is) the child at? How (are you going to) build a trial when you (don’t have) one?” Bryant said.

Bryant and Richardson complained about the $50,000 bond that’s kept her behind bars during their conversation. Bryant said he thinks officials believe Richardson will talk if she’s kept in jail long enough

“They found (Casey Anthony’s) baby damn (near) dead and she walked away from it,” Bryant said.

Bryant said Richardson may not be able to beat the charges because Anthony had money and she is a “black girl” and they’re “(going to) hang the black girl.”

“I sure wish I had some money. I’d go get you a real lawyer, for sure,” Bryant said.

Bryant has custody of the couple’s 7-year-old daughter. He’s not sure if he fathered Baby Willow.

The couple has given away two other younger children to family members, but he said he may try to get one back.

Bryant said he will not testify against Richardson and will only tell the jury that she has mental problems in the belief it will lessen her punishment.

The trial is set for June.
