Workers rip apart pool from wrong home in Longwood

LONGWOOD, Fla. — A Longwood man said workers destroyed his pool when they started construction on the wrong house.

Ted Takvorian said the workers broke into his back yard and ripped apart his pool.

Takvorian said when he got home from a trip, he found the lock on his gate had been broken off, the pool was drained and the bottom surface had been stripped off.

"I have no idea where all the tile went," Takvorian said.

Takvorian said he was at the airport in Newark when he got the first clue there might be trouble.

"Our housekeeper sent us a picture of the pool and said, ‘Are you getting it refinished?’” he said.

A crew for Water's Edge pools in Oviedo was supposed to be resurfacing the pool at 115 Sheridan Avenue, and Takvorian lives at 115 Dellwood Avenue, which is about 800 feet away.

"Then it starts to click that they come to the wrong house," Takvorian said.

The owner of Water's Edge said his crew made a mistake and went to the wrong house. He said he offered to repair the pool with a more expensive surface.

But Takvorian said he doesn't trust the company, especially since the crew never even left a note.

"I said, ‘You either give me a check for the work or turn it over to your insurance company and they give me a check. But I do not want your company doing the work,’" Takvorian said.

Takvorian said he has already contacted another company to get his pool in working order so his grandchildren visiting from New Jersey will have a place to swim.

The owner of Water's Edge said the mistake was made by a new employee, and he has handed it over to his insurance company, which will cover the repair cost.

The Longwood Police Department said there is an active criminal investigation into the incident.
