Ex-cop-turned-felon arrested on suspicion of impersonating a security officer in Kissimmee neighborhood

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The ex-cop-turned-felon who Channel 9 exposed working security inside a Kissimmee neighborhood was arrested Thursday, one day after his longtime girlfriend – and boss – was also taken to jail.

Work by Channel 9 investigative reporter Karla Ray led to the state criminal investigation, which led to their arrest.

A video was sent to 9 Investigates by a Turnberry Reserve resident showing the moment Joseph Conover was taken in handcuffs to jail, again.

He was arrested on three counts of impersonating a security officer.

Concerns from residents about Conover’s past arrest history brought Ray to the neighborhood in September.

9 Investigates uncovered that he took a plea deal after being accused of false arrest and abuse of power charges stemming from his time as a North Carolina company police officer.

That state allows people to start their own police departments, meaning he was the chief.

Because of that conviction, he cannot serve as a security officer in Florida.
