ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Disney World union members finally approved a new contract around 9:00 Friday Night.
The new contract ends a dispute that was going on between Disney and 21,000 workers for the past several months.
Not everybody was in favor of the contract. More than 60% of the workers voted. According to Harris Raynor, the President of the Service Trades Council which oversees 6 Disney Unions, 4,987 voted in favor of the new contract; 2,099 said no.
Raynor told WFTV over the phone the unions are very pleased, especially at the turnout. He said you don't even get that kind turnout for a presidential election.
Two weeks ago the two sides came to a tentative agreement that would give workers 3% annual raises for 3 years and bonuses of up to $750 each year.
Some of the members still think the raise is too low and claim it will be eaten up by rising health insurance premiums from Disney.
A Disney spokeswoman released the following statement late Friday night, "We are pleased with the outcome of the vote today. Both the voter turnout and new contract were tremendous."
