"Try your skill in gilt first and then in gold" – English Proverb
Looking for a new nightlife experience in Orlando? Check out the Gilt Nightclub. Formerly known as Roxy, the new club is quite different than its predecessor. If you remember Roxy, you’ll be amazed to see how Gilt has transformed in the last 6 months. Gilt is home to the largest dance floor in Orlando and you’ll have no problems getting a drink because there are 10 bars.
You enter in the 'whiskey room', a lounge-style atmosphere that includes pool tables and darts. Check out the cool distillery design behind the bar. Local Florida craft beers on tap and several specialty cocktails you'll only find in this part of the club. The specialty cocktails include freshly made syrups and muddled fruit. The two that I sampled are called the Blueberry Basil Gimlet and the I Can't Even. The gimlet is made up of fresh muddled blueberries, blueberry-flavored vodka, simple syrup and a slap of basil and lemon = yummy! It's a very light-flavored drink and one I will most likely order every time I'm at Gilt. The 'I Can't Even' is a bourbon-based drink that consists of fresh cantaloupe and honey-flavored syrup. If you're not a fan of bourbon, don't let this drink fool you. The made-fresh honey-flavored syrup masks the taste. You'll want to come back for more because the specialty cocktail menu will evolve throughout the year.
Want to dance? The rest of Gilt is a fancy nightclub like no other in Orlando. The décor brings bling back. Gorgeous chandeliers hang over the first bar and a wall of mirrors decorates the back. There are 5 bars off the dance floor and 2 VIP areas. Each VIP table includes a safe, which is great for the ladies who want to dance but don’t to bring the purse on the dance floor. Gilt is also an entertainment complex and can accommodate shows. Ladies - starting in 2015, Rock Hard Revue will perform every Saturday in the main room. There’s a great photo opp just off the dance floor – you’ll see what I mean when you’re there.
Upstairs you’ll find more bars and a second dance floor. The VIP section upstairs is actually cabanas that overlook the downstairs dance floor. Cool fact about Gilt, pretty much anywhere you stand in the club, you can see the main dance floor. Don’t expect watered down drinks or well alcohol you’ve never heard of; all the well drinks are made with brands we all know and love. In other words, you’ll always get a fulfilling drink when you’re at Gilt.
Currently, Gilt is open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Wednesday is Ladies Night; ladies get free parking, free cover and 2 free signature cocktails. Dance to the rhythm of Latin music on Friday nights. Saturday night will feature live entertainment and star DJ's (you'll have to check www.giltnightclub.com for more weekly information). Beginning in 2015, Sunday night will become Hip Hop Night. If you're in a rush, Gilt Nightclub offers a to-go service on all liquors and beer.
