Daytona Beach police said the victims are currently being treated at the hospital, one in stable condition and the other in critical condition.

According to a Bethune-Cookman University alert sent to students, two of their peers were shot.

University students said they are tired of their school making the news for the wrong reasons.

“We are here to get an education, and instead, we are learning more about gun violence and how it’s in our school,” said student Alexus McGhee.

The shooting on Saturday did not happen on BCU’s campus, but the park is right next to a residence hall where students spend a lot of time.

Students told Channel 9 they woke up to an alert from the university and police cars showed up outside of their dorms.

“It’s a lot of people with mental health issues, and it’s just not being addressed, so people just snap and do things and hurt other people,” McGhee said.

People in the community hope things get better, and has caused new concerns for neighbors who frequently visit the park with their families.

Investigators have not yet identified the shooter but said this investigation is ongoing.
