• Report: Lakeland PD officers allegedly having sex in church, cemeteries

LAKELAND, Fla. - A three-month-long investigation uncovered a sex scandal at the Lakeland Police Department.

Authorities said 10 officers were involved in the scandal. A female employee who has been working for the city in various departments for 13 years came forth with the allegations.

According to documents released by the state attorney's office, she alleges many of the sexual encounters occurred while she and other participants were on duty.

The sex would sometimes take place in city buildings, in police patrol cars and while officers were driving around the city, she alleges in a report.

Some of the encounters allegedly took place in cemeteries and even a church, according to the report.

Investigators said she confessed to inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature between her and members of the Lakeland Police Department, a member of the Lakeland Fire Department and other city employees throughout her tenure with the city.

She claimed there was "sexting" going on and some of the sex was not consensual.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was brought in to investigate the matter as well as the State Attorney's Office.

So far, investigators have determined that no criminal charges will be filed.

The city is conducting an internal investigation to determine what policies may have been violated.

"I'm outraged, embarrassed, I am frustrated and saddened. I feel for myself and the other members of the Lakeland Police Department who do our jobs professionally everyday," said Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack.

Officials said several people have faced disciplinary actions.
