VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy died, and four other passengers were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Volusia County on Oct. 31. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal collision on State Road 40.
Troopers reported the crash occurred at 2:13 p.m. west of Still Road. A 2024 Tesla Model Y traveling westbound collided with an eastbound 2025 Chevy Silverado after the Tesla driver overcorrected into oncoming traffic.
According to investigators, the Tesla was heading westbound when it veered toward the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected to the left, putting the electric vehicle directly in the path of the oncoming truck. The right front of the Tesla struck the right front of the Silverado.
The 12-year-old male passenger was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The four other passengers in the Tesla — one adult and three children — were also transported to the hospital with serious injuries, where they remain in stable condition.
Neither driver was injured in the crash. The driver of the Tesla, the driver of the Silverado and a passenger in the Silverado all remained at the scene following the collision.
