Men attacked by bees while trying to scrape hive for honey

Bee hive in Pasco County

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Three men were attacked by bees in Pasco County when they tried to get some honey.

A woman also was stung dozens of times when she walked out of her home during the attack, deputies said.

"I looked out the window and I saw my neighbor's brother on the ground, rolling, covered in bees, bees all over his face," said neighbor Alison Osteinm.

Pasco County Fire Rescue officials said 20,000 to 30,000 bees swarmed the four people Sunday morning in New Port Richey, as they tried to scrape the hive for honey.

The three men were sent to the hospital after being stung more than 50 times.

The woman's injuries were not as serious.

Authorities said firefighters sprayed the bees with a hose to make them disperse.

The bee's hive is scheduled to be removed by beekeepers in the next few days.
