AdventHealth Celebration 1 of 3 U.S. medical facilities using new surgical robot

CELEBRATION, Fla. — Three Florida hospitals have become the first in the country using an innovative new robot designed to replicate a surgeon’s arms.

Israel-based medical device company Memic’s Hominis Surgical System is currently the only surgical robot with humanoid-shaped arms.

Hominis received Food and Drug Administration marketing authorization back in February for use in certain gynecological procedures.

Boasting human-like dexterity and 360 degrees of articulation, the robotic arms are able to access areas that couldn’t be reached with other robotic technology.

The system also allows surgeons to perform transvaginal gynecological operations , which research suggests results in less pain and better recovery times for patients.

Memic announced Thursday that AdventHealth Celebration, The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial, and HCA Florida Healthcare’s Kendall Regional Medical Center would be the first in the nation to adopt the new system.
