Army considering tattoo rule for new recruits

FLORIDA — The U.S. Army is considering a regulation on tattoos that would be applied to new recruits.

According to reports, the Army is considering setting firm limitations on where recruits can have tattoos.

The new rule would not allow markings below the elbow or knee.

One possible recruit said he does not think tattoos are professional, but a tattoo artist said the rule would be taking a freedom away.

"They're not going to be given that right, to fight for our freedom because they have their mom's name tattooed on them," tattoo artist Colt Baker said.

"I don't think you should be showing any tattoos, especially if they could be, you know, probably gang-related," said Oscar Mejia, who wants to join Army.

An Army recruitment representative said the Army cannot comment since no decision has been made.
