Bear family makes surprise overnight visit to Channel 9 meteorologist’s home

Wild visitors at the door: Channel 9 Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry was surprised to see a momma bear and two cubs at his home.

APOPKA, Fla. — An unexpected trio stopped by Channel 9 Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry’s home overnight: a momma bear and her two cubs.

The bears were caught on Ring doorbell video as they wandered through the Apopka area.

While bear sightings are not unusual in parts of Central Florida, wildlife officials remind residents who live in bear-populated areas to take steps to avoid attracting bears to their homes.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends that people who live in areas where bears are common, including Apopka, use bear-resistant trash cans.

Keeping garbage securely stored can help prevent bears from being drawn into neighborhoods in search of an easy meal.

For Terry, this overnight visit was certainly an unexpected way to start the day, and a reminder that in Central Florida, wildlife can sometimes show up right at your doorstep.
