Bloody, bruised woman carried on stretcher after 'occupied burglary' in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman in her 80s said she was sleeping on her couch when she was awakened by a stranger's voice.

The woman, who had blood and bruising on her face, was carried on a stretcher Wednesday outside a home on South Tampa Avenue and 37th Street.

Channel 9 reporter Q McCray was at the scene as CSI crews investigated what Orange County deputies called an "occupied burglary."

Deputies said the burglars beat the woman and stole from her.

Resident Emma Faircloth described the neighborhood as quiet.

"This is a really sleepy road," she said. "You've got OBT, and all sorts of weird goings-on up there. But around here, it's very quiet. It's almost like you're in the country."

Investigators did not reveal the circumstances surrounding the burglary, but they said they are searching for the burglars.
