3 taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after Merritt Island shooting, deputies say

Brevard County Sheriff's Office Brevard County deputies are going to be trained on how to better assist people with special needs during emergencies.

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Three people were seriously injured in a shooting at a Merritt Island apartment complex Wednesday night, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a shooting at the Courtney Palm Apartments at 700 N. Courtenay Parkway. When they arrived, they found three men with gunshot wounds, deputies said.

All three were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting appears to have been the result of a dispute that started over gambling, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say the three people injured were the only ones involved, and that there’s no threat to the community.
