MELBOURNE, Fla. — A driver died Wednesday afternoon after her vehicle struck a guardrail near the intersection of South Harbor City Boulevard and NASA Boulevard, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Officers arrived at the scene around 1:16 p.m. and found the woman inside a Hyundai SUV suffering from a medical emergency. Officers broke a window to pull the driver from the vehicle and performed lifesaving care.
She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said they believe the driver experienced a medical episode before the collision, although the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the woman’s name at this time, but Channel 9 will continue to provide updates.
The Melbourne Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit is handling the investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Whiteside at 321-616-6087.
