Evacuations recommended for some in Brevard County ahead of Nicole’s impact

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A recommended evacuation takes effect for some residents in Brevard County on Wednesday morning.

Brevard County officials are expecting significant impacts from Tropical Storm Nicole.

There are concerns over rain, tropical storm-force winds, coastal erosion and a potential storm surge.

Brevard County schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday, and Port Canaveral is expected to shut down marine traffic at 8 a.m.

Melbourne Orlando International Airport plans to close at 2 p.m.

Brevard County has four shelters opening at 9 a.m.

The shelter locations are:

Max K. Rodes community center, in West Melbourne.

South Mainland community center in Micco.

Viera regional community center, in Viera.

Walter Butler community center in Cocoa.

Evacuations are not mandatory in Brevard County.

The county is only recommending evacuations for some areas.

Officials want you to take precautions now and take them seriously.

Anyone in a mobile home or anyone who is dependent on electricity for their health and safety, is recommended to evacuate.
