Judge: 14-year-old to be charged as adult for fatal shooting on Titusville bike trail

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A 14-year-old accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old along a Titusville bike trail last month will be charged as an adult, a judge ruled on Thursday.

Laneitri Rollins, 14, is charged with second-degree murder reclassified while inflicting death in connection to the shooting death of Mercutio Burford, 17.

Investigators said they found Burford dead from multiple gunshot wounds along the bike path near Washington Avenue on Feb. 9.

Rollins will be held at the Brevard County Jail on no bond.
