Bright Futures scholarship program to have tougher test requirements

FLORIDA — New standardized test requirements will make it harder for a high school student to qualify for Florida's Bright Futures scholarship program.

Starting next year, the program's minimum SAT and ACT scores to qualify will be raised.

A new report said that will cut the number of eligible students in half.

The number of students who qualify for Bright Futures in Seminole County is expected to drop from 90 percent to 60.

However, the changes will save the Florida Lottery, which pays for Bright Futures, about $50 million.
