Bumpy ride for Majesty of the Seas passengers who've returned home

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Nearly 3,000 passengers aboard the Majesty of the Seas returned to Port Canaveral on Friday, and many said they're not happy with their experience.

They missed out on a day of their Royal Caribbean cruise when the U.S. Coast Guard held them at the port after reports of worn-out life vests and other safety equipment on Monday.

Passengers were able to set sail on Tuesday for the Bahamas, but said weather prevented a stop at Coco Cay..

Passengers told Eyewitness News that the cruise line offered a 25 percent discount on the current cruise, plus another 25 percent toward a future cruise for the inconvenience, but many said they would never book with Royal Caribbean again.

"I don't think they made it up at all. (They) only gave 25 percent credit back. I don't think that makes up for people are on their honeymoon," said Maxine Green.

"It was just a rough experience, especially for first-time cruisers. There was nothing to do, there was nothing (that) was open. We just tried to keep ourselves occupied,” said one of the passengers.

Other passengers tried to make the best of what they said was an unfortunate situation.

"We tried to make the best of it," said another passenger.

Eyewitness News has a crew at Port Canaveral and we’ll have more on this story on Eyewitness News at 4 p.m.
