Burglary suspect accused of breaking into couple’s home, assaulting elderly homeowner

VOLUSIA COUNT , Fla. — A burglary suspect is behind bars after Volusia County deputies say he broke into a home and assaulted an elderly homeowner.

On Monday evening, the sheriff’s office said they received several calls about a suspect jumping on roofs and running through yards near Holly Hill.

While deputies were in the neighborhood, a woman called 911 to report that a man broke into her home and pushed her husband to the ground before running away.

The woman told deputies she and her husband had heard a noise and saw the man — later identified as Shawn Loncala — standing in the dining room.

According to deputies, Loncala then pushed the homeowner and ran out the front door.

Loncala was later spotted by deputies and taken into custody without incident.

Loncala was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault/battery and battery on a person 65 or older, in addition to several outstanding warrants.

He was booked into the Volusia County Jail on no bond.
