The City Beautiful is encouraging the public to enter its 2024 Historic Preservation Board Calendar and photography competition.

The popular publication has been around since 1991, depicting some of Orlando’s long-standing, notable treasures.

This year’s contest is seeking photos of the Lake Lawsona Historic District.

Established as “historic” in 1994, the district was developed between 1911 and the 1950s and contains roughly 500 buildings in the Lake Lawsona/Fern Creek and Thornton Park neighborhoods.

Officials said its mix of residential, educational, and commercial structures illustrates the city’s growth patterns in the first half of the century.

Now, before you start scoping out locations and architecture to snap the perfect subject for your entry, here are some rules to keep in mind:

  • Photographs may include an entire structure or its individual details
  • Exterior or interior images of the subject are permitted
  • Vertical or horizontal photographs are acceptable
  • Photographs must be black and white

In addition to bragging rights, a photographer whose work is selected for the 2024 Historic Preservation Board Calendar will receive a $100 honorarium.
