Capsized homemade houseboat sends party-goers into Biscayne Bay

MIAMI — A homemade houseboat that capsized near Miami sent 30 people into the Biscayne Bay over the weekend.

Passengers said they each paid $20 to ride the 45-foot party boat.

The boat submerged in water as the partying passengers fell in.

It took the Coast Guard, state wildlife officials and nearby boaters to get everyone out of the water.

"There were people floating in the water. A couple of people were holding on to some coolers and some other stuff, and there were people on top of the boat still," said rescuer Dena Miret.

Investigators said they are questioning the unlicensed captain of the homemade houseboat.
