Casselberry wants to clamp down on messy yards

CASSELBERRY, Fla.,None — The city of Casselberry is looking to clamp down on messy front yards.

City leaders said clutter and unkempt yards bring down property values, but residents told WFTV they think the idea is ridiculous.

Those residents spoke out at a meeting Monday night.

The city wants them to keep furniture, children's toys and storage units out of their front yards.

Resident said officials are trying to make Casselberry look like Maitland or Winter Park, when it's really a blue-collar town.

"This ordinance will disproportionally affect people who are lower income who are living in small homes," said resident Rhonda Ovist.

Anyone who doesn't comply would face a $200 fine or a lien against their property. A second reading must happen on the measure before a final vote.
