Central Florida father wants answers following his daughter’s murder

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — On Wednesday, one heartbroken father is looking for answers in his daughter’s murder.

Seventeen-year-old Shaniya Charles was found at the Castilian Apartments in Holden Heights with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Deputies said they have no suspect information.

Channel 9 spoke to Charles’ father about his daughter’s death.

Ronnel Charles said he just wants the killer caught.

“I raised her since she was 3 months old until she got to be 16,” Charles said.

Charles told Channel 9 that detectives knocked on this door around 2:30 a.m. Saturday following the shooting in the 1600 block of Holden Avenue.

“Shaniya got shot once in the chest and she didn’t make it, I’m sorry, and those are the only words that I have from the detective,” Charles said.

Charles said Shaniya spent Christmas with his family, and three days later around 4:30 p.m., the 17-year-old left and did not say where she was going.

Charles said he doesn’t know who she left with, but he said it was the last time he saw her alive.
