Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach allow sunbathing with some restrictions

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Starting Wednesday, beachgoers can sunbathe at Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach with some restrictions.

Leaders said sunbathing is allowed in groups of five or less but public parking lots remain closed.

Channel 9’s Steve Barrett noticed most beachgoers on Cocoa Beach were out for a walk or jog, just a few chose to stop to take a rest.

Throughout Brevard County, beaches have remained open to exercisers and swimmers and now to sunbathers.

One beachgoer said she believes relaxing restrictions at the beaches in Brevard County might work.

“As long as they stay far enough away from each other, I guess it’s OK,” she said.

In Cocoa Beach, the city said it will be monitoring parks and the entire beach.

If people are not abiding by the social distancing rules, leaders may reconsider the sunbathing rule again.
