County cleans up stinky mess in Bithlo mobile home park

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Just days after Bithlo residents turned to WFTV for help with a messy problem, they're getting results.

WFTV reported on Wednesday about several overflowing Dumpsters that were stinking up neighborhoods and attracting pests.

"They do draw roaches, mice," said resident Shirley Turrell.

On Friday, Orange County brought in heavy machinery to clean up the mess.

Workers with county contractor Aristocuts were out early Friday at the Bithlo mobile home park that became a dangerous mix of trash and overgrown weeds and bushes.

The man in charge of the cleanup, Charles Aylor, said the trash problem was a danger to residents.

"Whenever they see something that's dangerous to health, they give us a call. In cases like this, the county makes it a priority," Aylor said.

The underlying problem was the park had an out-of-state property owner that would not spend the money for trash pickup.

"It's bad. We cleaned this place up about two months ago. Came through and did loads and loads and loads to the landfill," said Aylor. "When we leave here it's all going to be clean. It may not stay that way, but it's all going to be clean when we leave here."

The owner will be charged for the cleanup by the county, and code enforcement will put a lien on the property if the bill is not paid.
