ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Health Department estimates 66% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have since recovered, a drastic decline as infections climb.
On April 27, Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino started calculating the data for people who successfully fought off the virus. At that time, the number was about 70%. Within a few days, it rose to 93%.
On June 1, the number dropped to 87%.
After days of increasing cases, the recovery rate is now at 66%.

Since March 1, 3,900 people in Orange County have tested positive for COVID-19. Almost 2,575 have recovered, and 48 have died.
That means almost 33%, or 1,278 of all people who tested positive, are still trying to fight the virus.
Orange County uses the term “recovered” to describe someone who no longer tests positive for COVID-19. However, some may never fully recover.
Dr. Marcia Katz with the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine said the biggest organs affected by COVID-19 are the lungs, kidneys and heart, and that the virus may cause a person complication that patients will battle for days, months or even years.
