TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Despite rain falling earlier in the night, a few hundred people gathered at Space View Park in Titusville to view the launch of SpaceX’s Crew-3 launch Wednesday night.
The crowd was diverse. Some people had watched and photographed hundreds of launches. A few were from far-away countries like Japan and Germany. Some planned their first ever trips, while others drove out on a whim. One girl wore a mock space suit.

The Lugo family, from Seminole County, traveled out together for their first in-person launch, with mom Erica planning the trip and herding her three kids and husband into the family car.
“It was indescribable,” she said, grinning, after watching the launch.
One blanket over, the Hitts family had quite a different experience. From West Virginia, the family left their AirBnB in the middle of their Disney trip to try to catch a sight they’d only ever seen on TV.
“It was awesome,” their daughter said, though insisting she didn’t want to be an astronaut.
Clouds temporarily got in the way, but spectators were still treated to amazing sights, leaving everyone in a cheerful mood as they packed up.
