The city’s current master plan boundaries for those events allows businesses fronting Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd from North Segrave Ave. to Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. to participate.

The proposed expansion would nearly triple the size of the area from 0.27 miles to 0.78 miles and increase the number of businesses included from 22 to 33, including Bethune-Cookman University.

The newly included sites would become eligible to apply for permits to have outside vendors and booths set up during the events, drawing more people to the area.

If passed, the resolution would also extend the application deadline for Biketoberfest 2022 applications from April 20 to May 6 to allow businesses within the expansion area to apply.

According to a memo to City Manager Deric Feacher, city staff received the request from property and business owners on MMB Blvd. wanting to be included. The staff noted some people were already participating in outside activities on their properties illegally.
