Prosecutors present evidence in Merritt Island home invasion murder trial

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — On Monday, prosecutors continued presenting their case against Chase Harrison, Cory Cabaniss, and Anthony Davila, who are charged with first-degree felony murder in the 2021 shooting death of 25-year-old Matthew Nicol during a Merritt Island home invasion.

Investigators say surveillance video captured five armed suspects arriving at a home on East Hall Road in Merritt Island in a rented U-Haul while disguised as members of law enforcement.

Jurors heard testimony about a hammer investigators say was left at the crime scene and traced to a Home Depot purchase allegedly made by one of the defendants the day before Nicol was killed.

The state also presented hours of testimony about cell phone records that investigators say placed the defendants’ phones near the same cell tower at the time of the home invasion.
