Deland to host 12th Annual Mayor’s Backpack Giveaway

DELAND, Fla. — With the start of school quickly approaching, the City of DeLand invites residents to participate in the 12th Annual Mayor’s Backpack Giveaway & Community Health Initiative.

The giveaway and health fair will be held near the Earl Brown Park amphitheater at 815 South Alabama Avenue in DeLand on Aug 6.

Backpacks will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Parents can also visit vendors throughout the fair to receive much-needed school supplies for the upcoming school year.

The Florida Department of Health will offer free immunizations for children in grades K-7, as well as free health screenings.

Parents are asked to bring a photo ID and proof of Volusia County residency in order to receive a free backpack.
