Deputies: Boy, 4, dies after being found in SUV parked outside school

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 4-year-old boy died after being found in a parked SUV on Friday afternoon, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Logan Starling was found at about 2:30 p.m. in a hot SUV outside the Elite Preparatory Academy, where he was a pre-K student, officials said. The SUV was locked and not running, they said.

Deputies said a school official ran him to a fire station across the street from the school. Firefighters took Logan to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he was pronounced dead.

Logan's family said he rode in the back row of the SUV with his stepmother, who works at the school, and her mother, who volunteers there.

They said the two adults rode in the SUV with at least six children Friday.

Roy Werner, Logan's great-grandfather, described him as an awesome boy who loved to laugh and give big hugs.

"He was born premature, was small, so he was given the nickname 'Big man,'" he said. "His favorite saying was, 'Big papa: I love you.' I said, 'Big man: I love you more.' And he would say, 'I love you the mostest.'"

Officials didn't say how long Logan had been in the car, but relatives said he was discovered about five hours after school began.

The Sheriff's Office believes the death was accidental.
