Deputies: Edgewater woman drove drunk with child, 8, in car

EDGEWATER, Fla. — An Edgewater woman is facing charges after she drove drunk with her 8-year-old son in the car, according to deputies.

Deputies said about 3:20 a.m. they tried to pull over Sonia Sirol, 40, in the area of 10th Street and South Dixie Freeway.

According to reports, when a deputy tried to pull her over, she turned around and drove toward 6th Street where a New Smyrna Beach police officer turned on his sirens and attempted to stop her.

Deputies said she ran a stop sign and almost hit another car before eventually stopping for the deputy.

Reports said Sirol’s speech was slurred and she smelled of alcohol.

Deputies saw her 8-year-old son was in the passenger’s seat.

Sirol refused to take Breathalyzer test and was taken to jail.

While waiting for Department of Children and Families officials to arrive, the child told deputies he had not eaten all day.

Sirol is facing DUI and child neglect charges.

Her child is in DCF care.
