Deputies seek hit-and-run driver after bicyclist dies in Polk County crash

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating a car driver who hit a bicyclist near Winter Haven and left the crash scene.

Deputies said the crash happened at Winter Lake Road and Thornhill Road near he intersection of Winter Lake Road and Thornhill Road.

Investigators say the victim, a young black adult, was driving his bike on Thornhill Road and entered the intersection at a red light.

A witness said the feeling car was a gray or dark-colored sedan that hit the bicyclist and then ran away.

Deputies said that the victim was unresponsive when they arrived at the scene.

First responders rushed the bicyclist to a local hospital, but he did not survive.

PCSO said the suspect’s car could have visible front-end and side window damage.
