Man dies after shooting father and turning gunfire at Orange County deputies, sheriff says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies shot and killed a man after responding to a domestic disturbance in Pine Hills on Sunday.

2:40 p.m. update:

Orange County Sheriff John Mina said four of his deputies were involved in a shooting around noon, at a home on Santa Barbara Road.

Mina said deputies were called to the home for a domestic disturbance and when they arrived, they saw a man in his 20s shoot and pistol-whip his father.

The man then turned his gun to Orange County deputies, Mina said.

Officials said the deputies shot the man, who later died from his injuries.

Mina said none of his deputies were hurt and the father sustained non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the arm. The shooter’s mother was not injured in the shooting.

Mina did not identify the shooter but said he appears to have an extensive criminal record.

Deputies have been called out to the house several times in the past, Mina said.

This is the second deputy-involved shooting this week for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The second happened last Sunday, and also started after a domestic disturbance.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

Channel 9 has a crew at the scene and will have continuing coverage on Eyewitness News.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting near Pine Hills Road and Colonial Drive on Santa Barbara Road.

It happened sometime after 12 p.m.

No further information was immediately available.
