Doctor saves the day for woman in labor at Merritt Island gas station

A doctor who was pumping gas at a Merritt Island gas station Friday saved the day for a  woman who had gone into labor.
Dr. Javier Soto, an Ob-Gyn at Weusthoff Medical Center in Rockledge, was at a Speedway gas station at the corner of State Road 3 and Grant Road when he heard a cry for help.
The woman’s husband called out asking Soto, who was wearing his medical scrubs, if he was a medical professional.
Already on his way to the hospital to deliver another baby, Soto jumped into action and delivered the baby in the back seat of the couple’s pickup truck.
“It’s what I do on a daily basis,” Soto said. “It just so happened to be in a gas station.”
An ambulance arrived to take the woman and her newborn to the hospital.
The mother and child were OK.
