Doctors continue to study possible long-term effects on lungs, heart for those who recover from COVID-19

ORLANDO, Fla. — Doctors are continuing to study the future effects of COVID-19.

Studies show that the heart and lungs are seeing impact, some of which could be long term even for the most healthy of people.

Doctors with AdventHealth said there is still a lot of uncertainty over what effects people who recover from COVID-19 may face.

Doctors said there is a real need to monitor those seriously affected by COVID-19.

A study out of Germany on MRI’s showed that of the 100 patients who were not in the high-risk age, 75% of them had inflammation or muscle damage. Another study looked at autopsies in people 65 and older, which showed high virus levels in the heart.
