Driver dies after hitting utility pole in Lake County, troopers say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — All directions of County Road 33 — from Simon Brown Road to Bridges Road — have reopened following a deadly crash Friday.

Troopers said the crash happened in Lake County around 5:30 p.m.

According to a news release, a Chevrolet Chevy Monte Carlo was traveling south on County Road 33, south of Odom Lane, and ran off the roadway.

It is unknown what caused the 23-year-old driver to veer off the road and onto the grass shoulder, when the left side of the car hit a utility pole.

The driver was transported to Blue Cedar Hospital where he died.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
