ORLANDO, Fla. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine, with the latest shots expected to begin arriving at pharmacies and doctors’ offices in September.
The updated mRNA vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech is approved for adults age 65 and older, as well as people with certain underlying health conditions.
Insurance companies have said they will continue to cover the cost of the COVID-19 vaccine for eligible patients.
Health officials expect the updated doses to become available at pharmacies and medical offices nationwide beginning in September.
People who are eligible for the updated vaccine should check with their health care provider or local pharmacy for availability and recommendations on when to get the shot.
