DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A man was arrested after he was caught burglarizing a Fifth Third Bank in Daytona Beach early Friday morning, Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials said.
Gene Shuler, 49, was released from federal prison in June after serving time for bank burglaries. He is on probation until 2018, officials said.
Authorities said Shuler entered the bank on Beville Road after he broke a window and found a way around the security system. However, Shuler was under surveillance by FDLE agents.

"He knew what he was doing. This was not his first time. Again, we believe he is a suspect in dozens of other similar burglaries throughout the state of Florida," Danny Banks of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said.
Agents said they have been investigating Shuler for the past several months and believe he may be involved in as many as two dozen bank burglaries throughout Florida since his release from prison.
"Unfortunately, we do see individuals that are repeat offenders and don't seem to learn from their mistakes," Banks said.
Shuler was booked into the Volusia County Jail. FDLE officials said they don't expect him to be released anytime soon.
