FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Flagler County Fire Rescue is expanding its CPR training program from once to twice a month because of increased demand.
The department will offer classes on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The next five classes are scheduled for:
- Oct. 17
- Nov. 7
- Nov. 21
- Dec. 5
- Dec. 19
“There has been a demand for both the American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification and the Hands-Only CPR classes,” Fire Rescue Chief Michael Tucker said. “We added classes to the schedule in recognition of this need.”
Hands-only CPR involves calling 911 and performing chest compressions for a teen or adult who suddenly collapses. The American Heart Association recommends pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.
The beat of the Bee Gees song “Stayin’ Alive” can help people maintain the recommended pace.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says CPR performed during the first few minutes of cardiac arrest can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
Residents can register online or email CPRtraining@FlaglerCounty.gov for more information.
