PALM COAST, Fla. — Nearly 200 vaping devices prohibited for sale in Florida were seized during a countywide compliance operation in Flagler County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco on Aug. 26 to check smoke shops across the county for compliance with underage sales laws.
Officials said none of the shops checked sold tobacco, nicotine or hemp products to minors during the operation.
Investigators also conducted full searches at four Palm Coast businesses:
- Blaze N Flame, 4845 Belle Terre Parkway
- Savages Smoke Shop, 1475 Palm Coast Parkway NW
- Nuggs ‘N’ Muggs Liquor and Smoke Shop, 1270 Palm Coast Parkway SW
- Jaguar Smoke and Vape 2, 9 Palm Harbor Village Way W
During those searches, deputies assisted state investigators in seizing 184 single-use disposable vaping devices listed on the Florida Attorney General’s directory of products deemed attractive to minors and prohibited from sale in the state. No arrests were made.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office launched the nicotine dispensing device directory after state lawmakers authorized a list of products considered particularly attractive to minors. The state says products placed on the directory become illegal to sell or distribute in Florida after the required removal period.
Sheriff: Refusing underage sales is only part of compliance
“It’s good news that every shop we checked said no to selling vapes to kids, but refusing the sale at the counter isn’t the whole job,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.
Staly said investigators will continue working with state agencies to remove prohibited vaping products from stores.
